“A writer doesn’t need anything to write a book, he is completely alone and it’s good that it should be so. A director on the other hand can’t make a film without others.”

László Krasznahorkai [thanks CTRL-C] looks exactly like all the saddest characters from his own novels, the resolutely chair bound preening academics, the enfeebled. The smelly guys. László Krasznahorkai looks like the smelliest guys in his own fiction. I am very, very excited to meet him.
[Ed. I’ve just been told this is kind of mean. Let’s be clear, Krasznahorkai is without question one of the greatest literary geniuses working today. To read him is to be in awe of him. When I mock the man it is only because I know him to be beyond real reproach. It is never unjust to make light of our idols. Kill the Buddha and all that. And to be fair, those characters I’m talking about are pretty obviously modeled on what he and any author fears about themselves, the sedentary obsessions etc. In Satantango the smelly guy is literally the Author of the book.]
