Anything by Jeanette Winterson. City of Night by John Rechy -- he basically invents a new language in the 1950s. Dancer from the Dance by Andrew Holleran is to me the "Beloved" of the U.S. post-war gay experience, and Zipper Mouth by Laurie Weeks is fucking hilarious and beautiful.
