Good news: The transitive property of blurbing remains reliable. I’m about 3/4 of the way through Meeks and it is excellent: ominous and brimming with lush great sentences. Like this:

…the plums, plump and purple-black, flecked with lavender, and the oranges constellated with fine drops of cool water, and the lemons bright and indomitable in the sunlight, and the polished red apples still bristling with dark, sweet leaves. A breeze rushed through the high branches of the park trees. I thought of how pleasant it would be to line the interior of my head with layers of the cool green leaves.

This passage is also quoted by Jim Krusoe in his positive review from the NYTBR. Dustin (who now has a tumblr!) says: “If you haven’t gotten your hands on Meeks yet, it’s an exercise in outlandish creeping doom and deserving of your attention.” Holmes will be here to read on the 10th with Karen Lord. It’s a night for Small Beer, and if it were up to me, I’d serve those little Coronitas, because literalism!
